Loving Your Neighbor: God's Mission for the Church

Taught by Kevin Sawyer and Jason Truell
Words like “mission” and “evangelism” can unfortunately carry a lot of baggage, even in the church. These words can elicit feelings of guilt, confusion, anger, and irrelevance. They can also be difficult to define. However, within the muddy waters of these (sometimes understandable) responses and the confusion of what exactly God calls His people to be and do, God’s purpose for His people still lies. The goal of this class is to engage honestly with these responses and offer instead a foundation to God’s purposes for His church. We consider the mission of love that God has given His church, we examine the story of God’s work in the world and His call to His church, the virtues God builds in His people for mission, the difficult role of contextualization in  mission, and what it looks like for His church to join in His mission of love.
