Heather Uthlaut


Member 9 years
Heather and her husband, Brian, began attending Trinity in 2003. She has served at Trinity in a variety of areas including various roles with Wednesday in the Word, the former Women’s Ministry team, Women’s Retreat, Trinity Adult Choir, VBS leadership team, Small Group Ministry team, Library Task Force, and Fellows Ministry Team. Heather and Brian have three school-aged children.

Bill Wilder


Member 8 years
Bill Wilder is executive director of the Center for Christian Study. He joined the staff as director of graduate ministries in 1999 and also served as director of educational ministries for several years. Before coming to Charlottesville, Bill was called to the mission field in Nigeria for two years with his family after receiving an MDiv from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and a PhD in Biblical Studies from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. Bill is an avid student and teacher of the Bible both in his role at the Study Center and at Trinity. He has also served for years on the Adult Education Ministry Team at Trinity. Bill and his wife, Nicolien, have six children.

David Turner, Elder


Member 37 years
David and Ellen Turner moved to Charlottesville in 1978 so that David could direct the Center for Christian Study. Upon arrival, the Turners joined Trinity in its “early days,” and David became an Elder in 1979. He notes that while it is easy to look back with gratitude at the extraordinary things that God has done through Trinity, he finds it even more exciting to look forward, seeking to faithfully serve Christ in the future. David states his eagerness to participate in the search for new leadership so that Trinity might continue to build on the vision that it has embraced as a church.

Ellen Foster


Member 9 years
After graduating from James Madison University and a two-year stint on Young Life staff in Colorado, Ellen moved to Charlottesville in 2005 to participate in the Trinity Fellows Program. She has enjoyed being actively involved in the life of Trinity over the past 10 years in a variety of areas, including mentoring middle and high school girls in the youth group, participating in and leading small groups, and serving on staff for four years as Coordinator for Community Life. Ellen left Trinity’s staff in 2011 to attend Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL, where she received her Master’s in Counseling. Ellen currently works as a counselor at New City Counseling.

Hunter Chorey, Deacon


Member 9 years
Hunter was a Trinity Fellow in 2005–06 and worked with Trinity’s youth group, tutored at Abundant Life, and began to develop deep friendships and relationships with members at Trinity. He has continued to be involved in various ministries at Trinity including leading children’s worship; singing with the worship team, choir, and chamber choir; and co-leading a small group. Hunter was ordained as a Deacon in 2014. He serves on the Worship Leadership Team and the North Parish Care Team. Hunter works as an intellectual property insurance underwriter. He and his wife, Mika, were married in 2008 and are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters.

Jane Bopp


Member 39 years
Jane joined Trinity in its early years and has felt privileged to have seen and been a part of God’s building His body of believers here. She met her husband, Paul, on a Young Adults’ Retreat, and they are grateful for the nurture their two children (now adults) received within this body. Over the past ten years or so, Jane has primarily been involved with Wednesday in the Word, our Wednesday morning women’s Bible study, as a member of the teaching team and a small group leader. Professionally she is a family nurse practitioner and works limited part-time at UVA.

Jerry Jared, Deacon


Member 19 years
Jerry Jared grew up in Nashville, TN and met his wife, Leslie, when they were both students at Purdue. He and Leslie have been married for 39 years and have two children and four grandchildren. Jerry is a high school math teacher and cross country and track coach at the Blue Ridge School. The Jareds have been members of Trinity for 19 years, during which time Jerry has driven the van for the college students on Sunday mornings, grown active in the Encore and Friends for Life ministries, and become a member of a small group in the North Parish.

Josh Chen


Member 2 years
After graduating from Westminster Theological Seminary with an MDiv, Josh spent over a decade in ministry, serving three years among Chinese and Korean churches in New York working with youth and English-speaking ministries, followed by seven years in inner-city Philadelphia as a pastor, church planter, and professor amidst a primarily Hispanic and Black population. Josh and his wife, Hannah, moved to Charlottesville in 2013 so that he could pursue a PhD in sociology. Josh strongly believes in Trinity’s five-year vision and in the importance of prayerfully discerning the missional leaders that God is calling to pursue His larger kingdom purposes through Trinity.

Lisa Wood


Member 36 years
Lisa came to Charlottesville in 1979 to pursue a Master’s in Education from the University of Virginia. She and her husband, Craig, have five children and five grandchildren. Lisa has served Trinity in many capacities in her 36 years as a member. She led our Women’s Ministry committee; worked to turn the “Mother’s Morning Out program” into our preschool, Great Beginnings; has served as a greeter for years; is currently a Children’s Worship helper; and has done a great deal of VBS teaching. Craig and Lisa have been a Fellows Program host family for 11 years, and for several years they have had a ministry mentoring young married couples.

Louis Nelson, Elder


Member 14 years
Louis joined Trinity soon after moving to Charlottesville with his wife, Kristine. In 2008, Louis was ordained as an Elder and has since served Trinity in a number of capacities: Senior Pastor Oversight Committee, Adult Education Committee, Community and Care Leadership Team, and Church Governance Council, among others. He and Kristine have a deep commitment to small groups and have led a group since soon after their arrival. Louis is currently the associate dean of the School of Architecture at UVa, where his current research works to document and interpret the architecture and landscapes of the eighteenth-century transatlantic trade in enslaved Africans.
